Orthographic Projection

  1. STEP 1 · CONCEPT

    Project the object onto planes at right angles to get front view, top view and side view.

  2. STEP 2 · ANGLES

    India (BIS) uses first-angle projection: top view is drawn below the front view.

  3. STEP 3 · LINES

    Visible edges are thick continuous; hidden edges are dashed; centre lines are chain lines.

  4. WORKED EXAMPLE

    For a cylinder standing upright, the front view is a rectangle and the top view is a circle.
